A flight to Windhoek takes you to Namibia’s fascinating and attractive capital, which celebrated its independence from South Africa as recently as 1990. Explore this clean and compact city on foot and visit the Tintenpalast (Ink Palace), which houses Namibia's fledgling parliament. Discover Windhoek’s origins at the city’s oldest surviving building Alte Feste (old fort), which houses Namibia's National Museum. A visit to Windhoek’s Penduka Project Centre on the banks of the Goreangab Dam will have you laden down with hand-embroidered textiles, batik and pottery. Windhoek lies in a beautiful valley bordered by the Eros Mountains in the north and the Auas mountains in the south.
